If you are thrilled by the excitement of boat racing, the Battle On The Bay is not to be missed! Featured will be several classes of boats, with race speeds between 75 and 200 miles per hour.
The race course is on the Great South Bay, in Patchogue between Blue Point and Bellport. There is an anchorage area on the south side of the course for spectators who want to view the races from their boats; the races are also visible from Shorefront Park in Patchogue.
There are several marinas providing transient space in both the Patchogue and Swan Rivers: Sunset Harbour Marina, (631-289-3800), Frank M. Weeks Yacht Yard (631-475-1675) Morgan’s Swan River Marina (631-758-3524), and West Bank Marina (631-627-8014).
Pre-race festivities will take place on Main Street in Patchogue on Friday, August 20, from 5:00 PM until 10:00 PM, when there will be an opportunity to meet the racers and view their boats. Jersey Skiffs and Garvey boats races will be run Saturday from noon through 4:00 PM; Sunday’s races will feature three classes of boats. There will also be live music in Shorefront Park on Saturday from 5:00 PM – 11:00 PM. Admission is free for all events.
